The alleged theft took place on Saturday, April 27, when Westport Police responded to an area home after receiving a call from the victim, said Westport Police Lt. Anthony Prezioso.
When police arrived, the victim told officers that her ex-husband, Donald Perri, had been yelling at she and her juvenile child prior to officers’ arrival. His behavior reportedly caused both to leave the home out of fear, Prezioso said.
Perri was reported to have become upset because the victim would not allow him to use her vehicle. After causing a disturbance at the residence, Perri reportedly took her vehicle and left the scene without the victim’s permission, police said.
Officers made telephone contact with Perri who reported that he would return the vehicle on the following day but refused to return to the scene as instructed.
Bridgeport Police was also contacted to assist but could not locate Perri. Computer checks further showed that Perri did not currently have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle. The vehicle was recovered the following day when Perri reported to the victim that he had left it at a municipal parking lot in Westport.
An arrest warrant was applied for and granted related to this incident.
On Wednesday, July 17, Bridgeport Police called Westport to notify them they had Perri in their custody on the outstanding warrant. Officers picked up Perri and returned him to the Westport Police Department.
He was charged with disorderly conduct, using a vehicle without permission, and driving without a license.
Perri is being held on $2,500 bond.
